What stays on your device
Your runs, routes, paces, personal records, shoe mileage, streaks, and all analysis are stored and computed on your device
. TempoLens does not upload your run history, GPS routes, or account identity to our servers in the course of normal use.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
With your permission, TempoLens reads your running workouts and related health metrics - such as heart rate, distance, cadence, and active energy - from Apple Health (HealthKit) so it can analyze your long-term progress and provide coaching. If you record a run in the app, TempoLens can also write that workout back to Apple Health so it stays in sync with your other apps.
Health data read from Apple Health is stored and analyzed on your device
. It is never sold, and it never leaves your device unless you turn on the optional AI coach and approve the Cloud AI permission described below - in which case only the derived statistics described below, not your raw Apple Health records, are included in the request. You can review or revoke TempoLens's Apple Health access at any time in the Health app under Sharing > Apps.
The optional AI coach
The AI coach is off by default
. Before any Cloud AI request is sent, TempoLens asks for permission in the app with an Allow Cloud AI? alert. If you choose Not Now
, no Cloud AI request is sent. If you approve Cloud AI, TempoLens sends a request to our server, which relays it to a third-party AI provider, such as OpenAI or Anthropic, and returns the coach's reply. The request contains:
- a fact sheet
of derived statistics about your training, for example personal records, fastest, slowest, and latest efforts, recent mileage and pace totals, streaks, gear mileage, and a summary of your latest run (including average heart rate and cadence); and
- the text of your questions and the conversation so far.
The request does not
include your name, account, email, GPS routes, precise locations, or your run history. We do not retain the contents of these requests after relaying them, and we do not use them to build a profile of you.
Our server enforces a strict schema for the fact sheet and rejects requests that include unexpected fields or obvious personal/location identifiers. This guard is designed to keep direct personal data out of coach requests.
Ask
When you use Ask, TempoLens sends only the text of your search to our server. The server relays that text to a third-party AI provider to translate it into a structured query. TempoLens does not send your run history, individual workouts, GPS routes, locations, identity, fact sheet, or the locally computed answer.
The app validates the returned structured query and computes the answer from your running history on your device. We do not retain ordinary Ask search text after processing it.
If you explicitly report an Ask answer as incorrect, we retain the reported question and limited app metadata so we can diagnose and improve Ask. The report does not contain your answer rows, run history, routes, locations, or fact sheet.
Operational logs
For reliability, abuse prevention, and cost control, we keep limited endpoint metadata logs such as response status, timing, token usage counts, and short hashed identifiers. These logs do not include your coach message text, fact sheet content, or ordinary Ask search text.
If you explicitly report an Ask answer as incorrect, we store the reported Ask question and app metadata so we can diagnose and improve Ask. This feedback report does not include your local answer rows, run history, GPS routes, locations, or fact sheet.
Consent and deletion
You can withdraw Cloud AI consent at any time by turning off AI Coach in TempoLens Settings. Deleting all data in TempoLens also turns off AI Coach and clears Cloud AI consent.
For questions about operational logs or deletion requests, email iphonef1.net@gmail.com.
Abuse prevention
To keep the coach available and prevent automated abuse, requests are verified with Apple's DeviceCheck and are rate-limited. DeviceCheck confirms the request comes from a genuine Apple device; it does not identify you. Requests also include a random identifier created when the app is installed, used only to apply per-device daily limits; it is not derived from your device hardware or your identity, and deleting the app resets it.
Third-party AI providers
When you use the coach, the fact sheet and your messages are processed by the AI provider that powers it. When you use Ask, only your search text is processed by the provider to produce a structured query. TempoLens uses third-party AI providers only under applicable business/API terms and data protection commitments designed to provide protections consistent with this policy and Apple's App Review Guidelines. We do not use consumer chatbot accounts for coach or Ask requests.
The coach offers general training information and is not medical advice; consult a qualified professional for any health concern.
Children
TempoLens is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "last updated" date.
