Where are my runs stored?

On your device. TempoLens records and analyzes your runs locally; your run history and routes are not uploaded in normal use.

How is Grade-Adjusted Pace calculated?

Grade-Adjusted Pace (GAP) estimates the pace that would require similar metabolic effort on flat ground. TempoLens calculates it entirely on your device from the workout's duration, distance, and available route elevation.

TempoLens groups the route into grade windows of at least 100 meters, estimates the uphill or downhill energy cost of each valid window, and combines those costs into an equivalent flat distance. Dividing the workout duration by that distance produces the displayed GAP.

The energy-cost adjustment uses the running model published by Minetti and colleagues in 2002: Energy cost of walking and running at extreme uphill and downhill slopes.

To avoid presenting a number from weak route data, TempoLens omits GAP for short, incomplete, mismatched, sparse, or implausibly steep routes. At least 80% of the route distance must have usable elevation data, and the recorded route distance must be within 20% of the workout distance.

GAP is an estimate, not a race prediction. It does not account for trail surface, technical terrain, wind, weather, altitude, fatigue, or downhill muscle strain. GAP calculations can vary between apps because models and route-quality rules differ.

Where can I find Ask, and how does it work?

Open Ask from Dashboard > Ask about your runs or Stats > Ask. Ask is a search tool for your running history, not a coach conversation: type a short question or choose an example, and TempoLens returns an app-computed result with matching runs when available.

Ask requires TempoLens AI. You can turn it on from the Ask screen or under Settings > TempoLens AI > Enabled, then approve the “Allow Cloud AI?” permission alert.

What does Ask send off my device?

Ask sends only your search text to TempoLens's server, which relays it to an AI provider to produce a structured query. The app validates that query and searches your running history on your device. Your run rows, routes, locations, identity, and locally computed answer are never sent.

Are Ask searches limited, and how do I report a wrong result?

Ask allows a limited number of searches per day to keep the service available for everyone. The Ask screen shows the remaining count when it is running low, and the allowance resets the next day.

If a result does not look right, tap Report beside “Answer not right?” TempoLens sends the reported question and limited app metadata for debugging. The report does not include answer rows, run history, routes, locations, or the coach fact sheet.

What should I try if Ask does not return the result I expected?

Confirm TempoLens AI is enabled and that the device is online. Try one of the example searches or use a short, concrete question about distance, pace, elevation, heart rate, temperature, run counts, or running frequency. A “No data” result means Ask understood the search but did not find matching information in your imported runs. If the service is unavailable, try again shortly; if the daily limit is reached, it resets the next day.

What does the AI coach send off my device?

The coach is off by default. Before any Cloud AI request is sent, TempoLens asks for permission with an "Allow Cloud AI?" alert. If you approve it, TempoLens sends a fact sheet of derived training statistics plus your questions to our server, which relays them to an AI provider. It does not send your name, GPS routes, or precise locations, and our server rejects unexpected or sensitive fact fields. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Is there a limit on coach questions?

The coach allows a limited number of questions per day to keep it available for everyone. If you hit the limit, it resets at the next day boundary.

Do you store my coach conversation?

TempoLens does not keep server-side history of your coach conversation. We keep limited operational metadata logs, such as status, timing, and aggregate token counts, to run the service.

Is the coach medical advice?

No. The coach offers general training information only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Consult a qualified professional for any pain or health concern.

How do I delete my data?

Deleting the app removes its on-device data. You can also clear data from within the app's settings.
